Evergreen Honored for "Corporate Social Responsibility", Humanitarian, Educational
and Enviromental Efforts by International Shipping Magazine

Group Chairman Dr. Chang Yung-fa Recognized for "Inspiration"

NEW YORK, NY. - Worldwide ocean carrier Evergreen and the Evergreen Group were honored for the company's Corporate Social responsibility (CSR) in a "highly competitive" challenge by Containerisation International Magazine.

Evergreen was singled out from dozens of entries from companies involved in international trade and transportation for "a number of environmental, educational and humanitarian reasons which the judges said were inspired by (Evergreen Group) Chairman Chang (Yung-fa) and the senior management team at the company," according to CI's management.

Containerisation International is a UK-based magazine which has dedicated itself to concise, accurate and intensive coverage of containerization in shipping since its almost since its inception a half-century ago and is highly respected throughout the world for its integrity in journalism.

The Corporate Social Responsibility
Award

"We are honored that CI and its readership who voted for our award have recognized the activities of which we re most proud - our commitment to a better world," said Group Chairman Dr. Chang.

"This goes beyond commercial interests. Long before the term 'corporate social responsibility' became a popular 21st century policy in international business, Evergreen had undertaken many positive actions that confirmed a pioneering spirit."

The magazine announced the competition six months ago with the awards in several categories given at an event at the New York Public Library this month. In December Taiwan-based Evergreen, which operates more than 150 vessels in world container trades, was short-listed with the Port of Tacoma (Washington) and U. S. - based Crowley Maritime Corporation.

According to the citation, the judges selected Evergreen for, among other reasons, "the carrier's new S-class vessels, which they said showed a proactive attitude to the environment, particularly given the additional costs in design and operations." In addition, the company's "response to the tsunami disaster and its allocation of resources to get supplies to stricken areas was also highly commended." Evergreen's training programs were also acknowledged.
