Hatsu launches new service between Asia and the US East Coast

Hatsu Marine Ltd is to launch a third weekly sailing between Asia and the US East Coast in January 2005. The UK carrier already provides five sailings a week between Asia and the West Coast of North America.

The new service, which has been made possible by means of a space charter agreement on the AUX service which links the ports of Shanghai, Ningbo, Qingdao, Colon Container Terminal and Kingston (important hubs for the Caribbean, US Gulf and South America), Port Everglades, Savannah and Wilmington NC.

According to the company's Chairman, Maurice Storey, Hatsu is committed to providing the North American market with a wide number of service options:

"We saw in 2004 some severe port congestion problems during the peak season. Rail capacity was also pushed to the limit. For 2005, we want to ensure that our customers in North America have the widest possible choice of ports so that they can minimise the risks of delay to their cargo."

"To meet the increasing volumes of cargo moving out of Asia, we are also adding to our fleet and will be taking delivery of a number of post-Panamax vessels in 2005 onwards."

Hatsu Marine Limited is a UK-flag container shipping company established in January 2002. Together with Evergreen Marine Corporation and Lloyd Triestino, it is part of the Evergreen Group which also has major airline and other non-maritime interests.
