2005 will be a big year for Hatsu Marine Ltd. Not only will it be adding to its
fleet with the delivery of several new UK-flag post-Panamax containerships,
it will be increasing its capacity on key routes.
Expansion of its North Atlantic services is a primary consideration. With effect from January 2005, it will increase its capacity on its transatlantic routes by adding to its slot allocations on the ECX and NUE services.
The ECX service links Northern Europe and Canada with port calls in Antwerp, Hamburg and Montreal. Weekly sailings are maintained by three 1500TEU vessels. The NUE service is a pendulum operation linking the Far East, North America and Europe. A fleet of Panamax vessels maintains a weekly schedule.
Hatsu's Chairman, Maurice Storey, explains that the company will be increasing
its capacity on the sector linking the US East Coast ports of Charleston,
Norfolk and New York with the European ports of Antwerp , Bremerhaven,
Rotterdam, Thamesport and Le Havre:

"As a European company, we regard expanding the range of services we can offer
European exporters. North America is a major market and we want
to be a major player."
"Over the past two years, we have concentrated on building our
market share in the Pacific where our first ships were deployed.
Now though, it is time to do the same on the Atlantic."
