Health and Safety Policy

The principle aim of our policy is to encourage the development and the maintenance of a sound safety and effective occupational health culture of the highest level amongst all employees within Evergreen Marine UK Ltd. To achieve this, we have established an Integrated Management System (OH&S) for our container Carriers and Company's shore-based personnel.

We are committed to maintain and operate our ships safely and efficiently by providing a safe and healthy working environment following these principles:

Making Health and Safety our first priority.
Promoting a culture of Health and Safety responsibility and awareness through the implementation of training and familiarisation.
Complying with all relevant Health and Safety legislation, and where possible, improving on these requirements.
Conducting Health and Safety practices in ship operation.
Establishing all reasonably practicable control measures to reduce identifiable risks associated with the Company's operations.
Investigating all incidents and accidents to identify root causes and prevent recurrence of human injury or loss of life.
Demonstrating a high degree of Leadership and Management commitment.

Evergreen Marine UK Ltd. is certified according to the rules of the ISM code and has obtained a full term Document of Compliance (DOC) and committed to fully comply with OHSAS: 18001-1999 standard.

I will be fully responsible for implementing the Health and Safety policy of the company. I hereby designate the Head of the Marine Department to monitor Occupational Health and Safety Management System implementation and authorize him as Designated Person (DP) to provide a link between the Company and ship.

Quality Policy

It is the policy of Evergreen Marine UK Ltd. to establish an effective quality management system (QMS) focused on business excellence. The company places a major priority on the quality of service it provides to its customers and regulatory requirements and is determined to further develop its present market position by following these principles:

the organisation will strictly comply with the United States antitrust law and the European Community competition law by ensuring business compete for its share of the market economy.
customers' requirements and applicable regulatory requirements will be identified, specified, measured and reviewed in order to meet their satisfaction.
investigating all instances of under-performance to identify root causes and prevent recurrence. The total quality management system is committed to continuous improvements.
within its capability, the organisation will ensure that adequate resources are available and to a standard that achieves the organisation's quality objectives.
promoting a culture of quality awareness and responsibility through leadership, communication, and training for direct employees, suppliers and contractors.

This policy is readily accessible from the organisation's intranet or ship's master's CD by all personnel. The policy will be emphasized to all new staff during induction and all personnel will be involved in its implementation and maintenance throughout the company. It is subject to management review to ensure its continuing applicability and effectiveness in addressing customer's demands and those of the ISO9001:2000 standard.

Environmental Policy

Evergreen Marine UK Ltd. has traditionally recognized the obligation to conduct its affairs as a constructive corporate member of society and established an Environmental Management System (EMS) within the scope of the management of crew manning, cargo operation, maintenance and repair and ships supplies for vessels registered to the UK flag which meet the requirements of the International Safety Management (ISM) code and its shore-based management team.

We are committed to manage, and, where practical, mitigate the identifiable environmental impacts and to comply with all the legal and other requirements associated with the company's operations. As a container carriers company, our environmental objectives are to control our emissions or discharges to air, land and water, prevent marine pollution, and reduce or recycle the waste.

Operational control procedures and environmental programmes will be set, monitored and constantly reviewed for achieving our objectives and targets as continual improvement for our environmental performance. These processes or procedures of our Environmental Management System are clearly documented in the Company's HSQE Management System Manual and related plans.

The policy will be implemented through a formal ISO 14001 environmental management system, which is maintained by regular review and audit in compliance with ISO 14001 standards to ensure its suitability, adequacy and effectiveness.

All employees whether on shore or onboard shall implement the policy at all times that will enable the Company to comply with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.

To achieve compliance with all applicable U.S. and International, flag state and port state environmental law, statutes, regulations, enforceable agreements, permits and additional requirements of the ISO 14001 EMS in all operational activities. (hereinafter referred to as "Environmental Requirements").
To continue for improvement and commitment to the ISO14001 Environmental Management Systems, including stated policies and objectives, and procedures of the ISO 14001 EMS.
To continue for improvement in environmental performance of vessel components and against any incentive or bonus programs based on minimizing operation costs associated with the operation, maintenance and repair of machinery spaces systems, equipment and components to ensure that employees will not curtail the operational costs and thereby ignore environmental compliance.
To minimize risks to the environment from solid and liquid wastes stream release, in consequence, if the vessel is to be taken out of service for repair that all solid and liquid wastes such as garbage, operational or maintenance waste, medical waste, oily mixture waste, bilge water or sludge, sewage etc. which was generated during the period of repairing, should be disposed in accordance with the requirements of international or domestic environmental regulations, shipboard waste management plan. In principal, we encourage that such waste through a suitable arrangement to be discharged to the port reception facility.
To provide adequate personnel and all necessary funding and resources to implement the ISO14001 EMS, which includes providing additional operational funding for vessel maintenance and repairs to minimize leakages from systems, equipment and components due to failure, wear and tear aging, casualties or inadequate maintenance.
To provide full co-operation during audits and inspections required by the ISO 14001 EMS. Any employee who involved in the operation of the Evergreen Marine UK Ltd. vessels, whether shore side or onboard, will be apprised of the consequences of non-compliance, including remedial training, disciplinary measures, possible dismissal or termination of employment, and can be held personally liable for civil and criminal penalties. In consequence, through a comprehensive EMS training programme to ensure that all employees in related to essential ship management or operation understand the company's environmental policy, implementation, anonymous or confidential reporting system, as well as, are able to integrate environmental objectives with all applicable environmental requirements in the performance of his/her job.

This policy is posted on Evergreen Marine UK Ltd. website, company's electronic bulletin board and ship's bulletin board for all persons working or on behalf of the Evergreen Marine UK Ltd. within the EMS scope and available to the public.

Effective Safety, Health and Environmental management is critical to our overall business success. Through management review, we assess the adequacy, effectiveness, and suitability of our management system, including our stated policies and associated objectives, to ensure that these goals are met.

Food Safety Enforcement Policy

It is Evergreen Marine UK Ltd's policy to ensure that all food handlers receive appropriate training in the principles and practice of hygiene and associated health and safety issues and they maintain acceptable standards to secure the health and well-being of the ships crews by:

Protecting food from risk of contamination, including harmful bacteria, poisons and foreign bodies.
Preventing any bacteria present multiplying to an extent, which would cause illness or early spoilage of the food.
Destroying any harmful bacteria in the food by thorough cooking.
Monitoring of temperature control on a regular basis.

All food handlers will strictly adhere to the following essentials of food hygiene:

Staff must wear clean overalls and hats when on duty.
Staff must always wash and dry their hands before preparing food and after visiting the toilet.
Staff must not wear strong perfume or aftershave.
Cuts and sores need to be covered with a waterproof, high visibility dressing.
The preparation of raw and cooked food will be kept strictly separate.
Staff must ensure that all equipment and surfaces are kept clean.
Staff should follow any food safety instructions on food packaging.
Staff must handle food carefully at all times. Special care is necessary for ready-to-eat products.
Staff must inform the Master if they are suffering from vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach upset or skin complaint.

Drug and Alcohol Policy
This policy pertains to all seafarers who work on company vessels.
Under the company policy, alcohol abuse and the usage or possession of illegal drugs or substances is strictly forbidden onboard at any time.
A seafarer who is taking a prescription drug is required to present to the master of ship a statement from the prescribing physician that the prescription drug will not impair the seafarer's work performance.
The Company is to supply a full set of medical stores and equipment onboard, in accordance with the requirement of the company's fleet standard medical chest.
The Company forbids requisition for illegal drugs or substances not listed in "The Merchant Shipping and Fishing Vessels (Medical Stores) Regulations 1995 (MSN 1768 M+F). "
In the interest of the safety and health of all seafarers working on board, the company reserves the right to inspect and search at random, unannounced times, all packages, boxes, clothing, or any personal belongings carried on or off company fleet.
When considered necessary by the Master, a search for illegal drugs or substances onboard may be executed. The execution of the search is to be accompanied by a designated officer of the ship.
Seafarers are prohibited from reporting to work under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
When changing over the watch keeping, the duty officer must confirm that the relieving persons have not been impaired by drugs or alcohol before changing over the duty.
Consumption of alcohol is strictly prohibited within twelve hours prior to sailing and six hours before on duty.
Alcohol consumption onboard is to be regulated and controlled by the Master. Meanwhile, the Master shall note that in certain countries, alcohol consumption during the 24 hours prior to entering port constitutes is a criminal offence. (e.g. the local agent shall be consulted for the regulations of the alcohol control)
The Master shall ensure that the company's drug and alcohol policy is strictly applied onboard. Any deviation from the policy or provision may have serious consequences for the entire operation of the ship and the safety of the ship and crew that shall be recorded in the "Deck Log Book" and reporting to the Seaman Section immediately.
A warning notice forbidding the drugs and alcohol abuse or the possession of illegal drugs or substances onboard must be posted in plain sight.
